Random Commuter Observation

Let me get this straight: Iran in on the verge of getting the bomb, Islamofascist terrorists are swarming, the country is in something not far short of an economic depression and NPR decides to waste air-time flogging a story about a "distracted driving" summit?

Frivolity is supposed to be my shtick.

They have to distract us from the fact that we have a "worse than Carter" president.

And what do they expect to accomplish? Mandate that the (government owned) auto companies install a chip that will disable all electronic devices when the car is started? Sound an alarm when a hand is taken off the wheel? Create millions of jobs for government-employed friskers who search you before you enter your car and confiscate anything that could be a distraction?

The states are already doing the work of passing laws against texting and other things. It's a bit much to think the feds can cover the rest - there will always be idiots out there.
