Random Commuter Observation

The Segway tour, a sure sign of the high touron season here in Your Nation's Capital, is probably the single dorkiest thing I've ever seen on the roads, even beating out the Duck Tour.

The latest offering is a Lincoln Assassination Tour, tooling about in between the White House, Ford's Theatre and related sites.

Folks, it's a lousy couple blocks. Use your damned feet!

Oh, and sooper-sekret message to the crew headed north on 8th Street toward the American Portrait Gallery last evening and spread out all over the road? There was a guy in a big Buick with Maryland plates stuck behind you just itching to gun it and mow your road-hog backsides down.

At least our Duck Tours go where you mostly can't go on foot - looking at the cliffs and scenery from the waters of the Wisconsin River.

While our touristy spots are crowded, most people are fairly polite and intelligent...except our visitors from the state to our south. They seem to think our state motto is "Wisconsin: Illinois' Playground". We'll take the tourist dollars, but I won't vouch for my behavior when I spot a Land of Lincoln license plate.

I must admit that I have done the duck tour in Bahston, but that was only to humor Mrs. R and the gels.

As for unofficial state mottoes, I have two favorites:

"Iowa: Gateway to Nebraska"

and (courtesy of Steve-O)

"Connecticut: Left Lane Closed Next Thirty Miles"
