Random Commuter Observations

The Dee Cee Metro has recorded announcements about safety, door-closing and the like, that begin, "First time riding Metro?........Great!"

The inclusion of that interjection increasingly annoys me, in part because I hate faux enthusiasm and in part because of the mere possibility that the WMATA thinks somebody down the platforms is actually answering the question.

On a totally different note, what's the adjective form of monsoon? Monsoonic? Monsoonal? Monsoonian? Whatever it is, it certainly applies to the weather round here these days.

I first noticed those messages post inaugural. I am just happy those stupid Pepsi banners have finally come down. I thought I was in an old Batman TV show and kept waiting for the POWWWW!!!!!, ZOWEEEEE!!!! and CRUNCH!!! banners.

My Niece did some post-grad work at George Mason U. She also worked part time in DC proper so spent a lot of time on the Metro. I asked her about it and she said it was a pretty efficient system. She also added that while riding it, on rare occasions, she actually ran into another American....
