Gratuitous Nats Posting - "Gonna Be A Looooong Season" Division
Well, look at it this way, since there's no game today, at least we're safe for 24 hours or so from the danger of dropping to 0-8.
Hey, ya gotta take 'em where you can get 'em.
I watched yesterday's loss to the Philadelphia Rat-Bastards Phillies. It was the first game I've seen this season, but I gather it was much like the others: plenty of offense, but damn-all pitching, some stupid fielding mistakes and a series of infuriating bad breaks.
Oh, well.
This was also my first experience of new MASN color-commentator, Rob Dibble. Now one of the things I had liked about ol' Don Sutton (who's gone back to calling games for the Braves this year), was his laid back, unflappable manner. Dibble is something completely different. I don't know much about him except that he's another ex-pitcher, but much anger there is, I think. It strikes me that the Nats' current slump may not constitute the best circumstances for Dibble's introduction to the Dee Cee market.
PHILADELPHIA DELENDA EST!
Posted by Robert at April 14, 2009 08:42 AM | TrackBackI have always liked Dibble. That said, he is not Sutton-esque. Dibble was one of the "Nasty Boys" bullpen crew in Cincinnati when they won their last World Series. He retired and co-hosted Dan Patrick's radio show on ESPN until Patrick ended the show. For the past few years Dibs was the co-host of the big mid-day MLB show on XM radio. He is a feirce competitor and I'm sure that he's probably thinking in the back of his mind that he could go out and pitch better than the current batch of Nats hurlers. A few more losses and Dibs might try to do just that.

Maybe only Phillies fans knew much of him, but if you've ever watched an NFL Films presentation, you'd hear him, too.

Posted by: Monica at April 14, 2009 04:16 PMI'm a longtime Braves fan, so I was very pleased when Don Sutton was hired to broadcast the Nats games. He's knowledgeable about baseball and communicates his thoughts quite effectively. Also, he cut his chops broadcasting Braves games before their run of continuous division titles began, so he understands patience with a young team.
