Football Follies

Anybody out there have a prediction about the Skins/Seahawks game tomorrow?

I'm not in any way on the Dee Cee B-A-N-D-W-A-G-O-N, however I wish them well. In general, though, I have to believe that a team coming off a wildcard win to face a rested opponent on the opponent's home field has got to suffer a disadvantage going in. Not saying they can't win, just that it's that much tougher.

I'm particularly sensitive about this as a Dolphins fan. Not only do we seem to have spent a lot of time in wildcard games in recent years, I'm reminded in particular of 2000, the last year of the Dan Marino Era. Miami had played their hearts out and defeated Seattle in the wildcard the week before. Then they went to Jacksonville. The result was one of the ugliest games in history and a horrible, horrible way for Marino to end his career. It still stings.

I gather that the Skins are not so banged up this year and that they didn't have to kill themselves in order to knock off Tampa Bay. Then again, I really haven't followed Seattle at all, so don't know what they're up against.

UPDATE: Not that the chances of my actually getting to watch the game are any better than a welk's in a supernova. I need to finish painting the Missus' study. And she has already bought the paint for the dining room. Then there are the Christmas decorations to get down, laundry and bedsheets to deal with, oh, and it's the youngest Llama-ette's fourth birthday. We're not actually having a party for another couple weeks, but she will, of course, be the center of family attention for the day.

Somebody let me know who won.

Seahawks 127, Washington 0.

Or thereabouts.

I'm going with Seattle by 10. Sure, I'm biased being an actual Seahawks fan, and Washington beat them earlier in the season, but:

1. Shaun Alexander
2. The Seahawks played their second string the last half of the last regulation game, so they're well rested.
3. Shaun Alexander
4. The Redskins may not have had to "Kill themselves" to beat TB, but that was because the Bucs' offense was even more unproductive than the 'Skins'. If Washington scores as seldom against Seattle as they did against Tampa, they're gonna get creamed.
5. Shaun Alexander
6. If you haven't followed the Seahawks, you've missed one hell of a season. Their third loss came in a pointless last game of the season after they'd already clinched Home Field throughout, and with the aforementioned second string in for most of the game. At one point in the season, they defeated Philly and the Niners back-to-back by a combined score of 83-3. They handed Indy one of its losses. And aside from the season ender, they've just been getting better.
7. Matt Hasselbeck. Oh, and Shaun Alexander.

It's times like these when I can't help but scream:

LACES OUT!!!!

See this movie for enlightenment as to the quote's meaning.

You had to bring that up, didn't you?

As a Redskins fan, I call it for my home team, but it will be a close game. The Redskins had a tougher schedule than Seattle did. That said, they do have an uphill battle before they even start the game with the 'Hawks bye week and having home field advantage.

As a Giants fan (and last week was the first game I got to see all year $#%%$&^@#$!!!) I must concur with Colossus. Although, establishing a new football record of 223 - 0 wouldn't be bad.

Have to go with the 'Skins in a squeaker. Seattle is more talented, but Gibbs makes Holmgren look like Gomer Pyle and as Jen said the Seahawks basically played highschool teams for most of the season. Redskins defense is starting to look brutal and they are peaking at the right time.

Pats/Skins in the Superbowl.
