In Vino Tweet! Tweet! Tweet!

You probably already think of screw-top and syntho-corked wine bottles as an abomination in their own right. But did you know that by using them more and more, bottlers are wiping out one of Portugal's primary bird habitats? Our pal Tim Worstall supplies the details.

So go ahead and pull that gen-u-ine cork. While you're at it, consider opening another bot. After all, you'll be helping the Earth Mother and her feathered little friends.

Ummm... no, I don't. I prefer naturally corked wine, but I've had good wines from bottles with synth corks as well(though I've only found 1 capped wine I liked, Lambrusco Amabile, a very lightweigt, sweet, semi-sparkling that's nonetheless very fun with some Italian fare).

Brain B....get with the program! Vinho Verde, fine stuff from Portugal. "Petillant" which is the technical phrase for semi-sparkling and lightweight and wonderfully refreshing. Have it with your seafood so as to leave room for the Port with your cheese! (And a Douro perhaps for the meat course?)

Thanks, I'll have to try it. Interesting that you should recommend it with seafood, my favorite pairing for the Lambrusco (the wine that made me a wine drinker) was linguini with clams in red sauce.

I'd be happy to drink to that!
