Semper Fidelis, unless, like, that Fidelis part causes you political or legal troubles

I don't like Jim Webb particularly for a number of reasons (stemming from his Born Fighting book), and was quite amused in the fall when my nutroots buddies were getting excited in their tinfoil underroos for his fighty fightingness. But I respected him, at least in the sense that the man seemed to have integrity.

But leaving a comrade to twist in the wind for him---that's pretty low.

Frankly, what is wrong with carrying a gun into the Capitol Building? They are both Marines. Which means they are trained to kill. Since it was a license gun, then, they are both licensed to kill. If they were planning to take someone out, I'm sure it would have been done as efficiently as possible, with one or two well-aimed bullets and little damage to the paintings or statuary.

Could Webb's stammering about this be his concern that when the Left learns he packs heat, they might not think he's quite the mousse-using metrosexual Marine they thought he was?

I voted for Jim Webb--just exactly because of the very obvious fact that he is, without doubt, absolutely mental. Nutters. Teched in the head, as they used to say. Advanced syphilis insane.

And thus, I knew, and dearly hoped, for six long, entertaining years of Jim Webb being, well, Jim Webb. And so far, he has not disappointed me in the least.

By the end of the current session, I fully expect him to show up on the Senate floor in an all-white, antebellum Planter's suit. With a hardwood cane. Which he will use to brain some other senator whom he deems to have insulted him.

And after that, the first duel between public officials in over a century.

It's just freakin' inevitable. And I cannot wait.
