Il Pranzo Romano

Thanks go to occasional commenter Fr. M and to the Peregrinator over at Canterbury Tales for a very nice lunch today. As has frequently been the case when I have met bloggers and blog-readers outside Algore's WorldWideWeb, they proved to be intelligent, witty and very good company.

As we discussed matters theological at great length and as I was waaaaaaay out of my league, I also appreciate their patience.

Oh, and Fr. M? The brown paper package in which you thoughtfully enclosed the subversive literature gave me no end of amusement on the way back, especially after having seen that Russian Embassy goon.

Yip! Yip!

Hot stuff?

Posted by: Mrs. Peperium at March 21, 2007 03:14 PM

Veeeeeeery eeenterestink.

Posted by: Robbo the LB at March 21, 2007 03:27 PM

I meant his looks... I know his theology is hot stuff.

Posted by: Mrs. Peperium at March 21, 2007 03:44 PM

Well I'm certainly not going to go on record as calling a priest "hot" - isn't that the source of a lot of trouble already? However, I will say that oddly enough he looked exactly as I imagined he would - something that almost never happens.

The old nickname among Catholic girls for good looking priests is "Father What-a-Waste."

Posted by: The Colossus at March 21, 2007 04:04 PM

Heh. I'm gonna guess Fr. M's been called that before.

Posted by: Robbo the LB at March 21, 2007 04:15 PM

Father What-a-waste?

Obviously those were Vatican II Catholic girls....

Posted by: Mrs. Peperium at March 21, 2007 04:43 PM

Mrs. P, I was told he's good looking and very nice. The hot stuff reference did not come from me.

Robbo, details?

Posted by: Card's wife at March 21, 2007 04:48 PM

Card's wife, Robbo, eventhough he is a lawyer, he refuses to go on record with hot stuff. Also he does not like oysters, so he cannot provide much about the oysters served at Father M's club.

Posted by: Mrs. Peperium at March 21, 2007 04:58 PM

Does Father M like oysters?

Posted by: Card's wife at March 21, 2007 05:31 PM

Hmmn, I've never asked. Did Bishop Fulton Sheen like oysters?

Posted by: Mrs. Peperium at March 21, 2007 06:09 PM

Robb-o,
It was great to be with you for our llama llunch. You are witty and intellegent company yourself and I hope we can do it again sometime, perhaps in Maine with the C's and the P.'s. Ahem, Mrs. P. and Card's Wife, you two are very sadly mistaken as I am often taken for Don Knotts. You should focus your attentions on Robb-o who looks like he just got out of college.

Posted by: Fr. M. at March 21, 2007 06:22 PM

Don Knotts? I don't think so. We've seen your picture.

Fr. M, I hope you got my email.

Posted by: Card's wife at March 21, 2007 06:44 PM

I knew Robbo was a baby face! Thanks Father Don Juan!

To whom it may concern at The Vatican and with any other official branches of the Roman Catholic Church,

Dear Sirs,

I most respectfully wish to inform you that all that has been said in this thread regarding Father M. has been said in the spirit of good clean fun. I will be happy to put this in writing, swear under oath, speak to Patrick Fitzgerald, or be questioned by NBC's Tim Russert about this.

Sincerely yours,

Mrs. Peperium

Robbo,
We should speculate as to what Mrs. P. and Mrs. C. look like. I seem to recall in a Patum Peperium post that one of them looks like Angelina...

Posted by: Fr. M. at March 21, 2007 07:14 PM

And the other one does NOT look like David Lee Roth.

Posted by: Card's wife at March 21, 2007 07:38 PM

I can quash the Don Knots thing out of hand. Not even close. Fr. M is, in fact, a ringer for Steve Carell, with a little Pierce Brosnan thrown in to give him some "edge."

I'd also deny the "babyface" tag for self, although I do still get carded on occasion.

As for Mrs. P? Oooooh....Personally, I've always thought of her as a cross between Kate Hepburn and Diana Rigg, but I confess there may be some projection going on there.
