For The Birds, Part Deux

The rat-bastard squirrels figured out how to break into our bird feeder this year, jimmying the latches, knocking the thing to the ground and cleaning it out. Finally today, the feader literally fell apart under their onslaught.

Well, I decided not to simply roll over. Instead, as George Costanza would say, we're taking it up a notch!

No, not the Daisy pellet gun (yet). Instead, the Llama-ettes and I went out this afternoon and bought the latest in state of the art boarder-repelling feeder technology, the Yankee Flipper.

Here's a foretaste of what I hope to be watching from the library window soon:

Daisy? Meh. Sure, that's fine if you're gonna go after an enraged dragonfly, but if you're looking for good squirrel medicine, you should look for something more along these lines:

Hey, if your idea of fun is trailing a wounded bushytail into the brush with the airgun Ralphie wanted for Christmas, don't let me stop you.

You gonna pick up your Red Ryder?

Sit at the picnic table out in the back yard?

Squirrels out in the yard?

Dear Robb-o,

Some how and some way you seem to have crashed not only the UTube site, but the original Flipper site as well. I refuse to believe that your legion of fans all attempted to view (twice) at the same moment I did. Therefore, this is your fault.

Assuming that you really wish to be relieved of this rodential plague, just drop me a line. This technically is winter, so meat for the pot is my first priority but helping you in passing is an added benefit for us both.

When I was younger, my dad and I discovered that IcyHot makes a pretty good squirrel deterrant. We spread it on the top and sides of our bird feeder, and waited. I've never seen a squirrel run as fast as the one that sat down in a big patch of it. Must have burned.

They don't like cayenne pepper mixed with the seed either. The birds can't taste it, but it'll hot up a 4-legged varmit and teach him to stay clear of the feeder.
