I was going to dispute the fact that this is indeed a 90's flashback and not an 80's flashback...I double checked and it was released in 1989, so it seems you are technically correct. So now I must find something else to dispute...

Heh. I only happened to know because I remember watching the video on MTV and the last time I did that was in my first year of law school in 88-89 when I shared an on-campus apartment with a couple other guys who had a tee vee.

I have, before, entertained the question of when the 80s began -- which I have tentatively answered as no earlier than August 1, 1977, with the release of Elvis Costello's My Aim is True (I don't believe in the calendar, but instead in cultural memes). But when did they end? I theorize that the 80s ended in January, 1989 (on the swearing in of Bush Sr. as President). The album Look Sharp! by Roxette was released in 1988, so it's definitely safely in the 1980s.
