ERNEEEESTOOOOO!!!!

Well, so much for that.

We got about three inches of rain altogether, not in a heavy deluge but in a nice, steady farmer's rain that allowed it to soak in nicely. I was out pulling weeds in the garden this afternoon and it was pure joy the way they zipped right out of the ground.

On a Cantori Scale of one to five, I'd give Ernesto about half a Jim. And it only got that because the power was out for a couple hours yesterday afternoon and this morning when I went to pick up the Llama-ettes from a sleepover, I had to take a detour because one of the streets was closed by a downed power line.

Do here in metro Richmond we got far more rain 6-8 inches, but that was it. My boys were outside playing in the rain.

Rainfall in the Norfolk-Virginia Beach area ranged from 9 to 17 inches. Fortunately, the worst of the storm did not arrive at high tide, the ground was dry as a bone from a summer drought, and sustained winds were only gale-force. Amazingly, cable news showed only the cars submerged in the underpasses--the breathless voiceovers led some of Mrs. LMC's friends and family to call from out of state, convinced we were screwed and only moments from scrambling onto rooftops.
