Gratuitous Lipsticked Pig Observations

Two things come to mind regarding Obama's lipstick-on-a-pig remark being hurled all round the Intertoobs and the campaigns this morning:

1.) I'm pretty sure that Obama was not implying that Gov. Palin is a pig. I mean, surely nobody can be that politically stupid, right? It strikes me that the metaphor simply got out of his mouth before his brain could vet it.

2.) Having said that, on a wider level I am increasingly of the opinion that everyone is underestimating the seismic shock Gov. Palin's entry into the race is causing, perhaps by several orders of magnitude. My advice is to chuck all those old models and metrics you're using to handicap this thing, because none of them seem to apply anymore.

Obama's disintegrating before our eyes. He alomst certainly didn't mean it as it came off. But it's another unforced error, and McCain's already running an ad about it.

I was telling my wife recently about the whole OODA-loop concept. McCain, a former pilot, understands it instinctively. And he is completley inside Obama's OODA-loop. He is just pushing Obama around at this point and all Obama is doing is reacting. He's totally off message and is beginning to look inept.

When Palin was named as the VP nominee, I said to my wife "Best thing Obama could do is ignore her and stay on his message." But the Dems couldn't resist it. Especially the media.

McCain has totally Ackbar-ed them. Palin is a trap, and they've fallen into it completely.

Yeah, it was a goof, but you know, it was the same type of goof that many republicans have been clubbed with by a hyper-partisan media. So I'm delighting in the irony of the situation.

So is this band of 30 lawyers and investigators being airlifted to Alaska the equivalent of Luke & Han's Moon of Endor strike team, then? Are there Ewoks in the Denali range?

Hah! GMTA, baby.

Robbo,

Obama's Alaska 30? They're the Germans bombing Pearl Harbor.

I think it was completely deliberate and I expect there was much hooting and hollering among democrats in private as well as those in attendance. But it was a double entendre with plausible deniability, no big deal, really. But why you impute gentlemanly instincts and deep understanding to Obama escapes me. I have seen no evidence of either.

In comedy, it's a "callback."

The timing of the delivery suggested a sort of, "nudge, nudge, wink, wink."

(without the "does she go" bits)

I mean, surely nobody can be that politically stupid, right?

Four or five years ago, I would've said that no politician could be so politically stupid as to throw away the entire reason that he and his party were lifted to control of both the White House and Congress. Bush did exactly that. Are you sure you don't want to reconsider the above question?

It strikes me that the metaphor simply got out of his mouth before his brain could vet it.

I think this is the most likely answer. Of course, it still doesn't reflect very well on the Snob, does it?

It's good to see that the circle-jerk blogs are still going strong. Now, how about getting out of your home, away from you bookmarked favorites, and having a real discussion with someone who will look you in the eye and ask you, "Are you that stupid?"
