A Somber Anniversary
38 years ago today, Fat Ted drove a 1967 Oldsmobile off the Dike Bridge connecting Martha's Vineyard with Chappaquiddick Island and fled the scene. After huddling with his cronies for ten hours, they finally contacted the police. He received two months, suspended sentence.
The passenger, Mary Jo Kopechne, was unavailable for comment.

Posted by Gary at July 18, 2007 04:30 PM | TrackBackWay back more than a decade ago, I first clued into Don Imus when he did the Gridiron Dinner and roasted Billary. Tuning into his radio show from Boston, I first heard his Ted Kennedy impersonator. It ended with screeching tires, a splash, and someone yelling for help from underwater. Ouch.
Maybe someday we'll rid ourselves of this royal family hooey and someone who isn't a Kennedy or a Bush or a Clinton.

with a love of the liquor poor Ted was born...
Infortunately, Mary Jo was left in Kennedy's wake.
Posted by: Boy Named Sous at July 18, 2007 08:10 PMYou know, I'm all for taking Kennedys down to the woodshed and beating the crap out of them.
Literally or figuratively it makes no difference to me; they've got it coming. But if one so chooses to do so figuratively one might want to learn how to spell "privilege" if one wants to be taken seriously.
Otherwise one could make some not-so-nice comparisons about how poor Mary Jo has been treated by her would-be defenders and those who are responsible for her death---and those comparisons wouldn't be that far apart on the moral spectrum.
