Come on, George: all the voices in your head are telling you to do it!

I can almost imagine the scene last night at Yankees Stadium, George Steinbrenner walking alone atop the ramparts, being visited by the ghost of Billy Martin.

Come on, George, you know you want to fire Joe Torre.....

Here's my poem in honor the situation:

Fire Joe Torre
Fire Joe Torre
Perchance to dream that Buck Showalter is available?
Fire Joe Torre.

I was just remarking to Mrs. C. this weekend that I'm surprised Steinbrenner hasn't fired Torre after their start.

The guy they need to fire is Cashman. He has a great lineup built, but no pitching. NY is a graveyard for promising young pitchers for some reason.

Their lineup is awesome, though:

CF Damon
SS Jeter
RF Abreu
3B A-Rod
DH Giambi
LF Matsui
C Posada
2B Cano
1B Mientkiewicz

Other than Mientkiewicz, who is really there for his glove, that's an awesome lineup. You can't find a batting order more solid than that in baseball. But on the pitching side of the house, they've got nobody. I can't blame Torre for that.

Of course, Steinbrenner will.

Yankees' starting pitching has been plagued with injuries this year which, Pavano aside, you can't totally plan for.

I think I saw Steinbrenner wandering through Times Square looking for someone to start tonight's game.
