MSM: Don't feel sorry for the Duke Lacrosse Players

via Drudge. ABC's Terry Moran says don't feel that sorry for the now-exonerated Duke lacrosse players, because they attend a prestigious private school, come from "privileged" backgrounds, could afford to fight, etc. This is appalling. Anyone unjustly accused of crimes and facing long prison terms deserves our support and the miscreants responsible our outrage, regardless of background.

So, what should we draw from Terry Moran's comments? Raw abuse of government power is okay because the targets will "get on with their lives"? It's okay to malign, slander, those college kids because he thinks they are privilaged? And just exactly what does 'privilaged' mean? Whatever Moran wants it to mean? Does he include himself in that category? After all, Moran s a private liberal arts school grad himself (Lawrence University, Wis, class of '82).

The lacrosse players were charged with serious crimes they did not commit, and they did not break under the strain of a university faculty & public fed by the rawest form of race baiting. That atmosphere, stoked by Nifong and others was that hell bent to milk the manufactured outrage for all it was worth, convict & hang the accused, prior to trial, the rule of law & presumption of innocence be damned.

Whether those players courage was fed by an inner courage, or the resources that come with 'privilage' or a combination of the two is beside the point.

Glad to see you posting again LMC. Maybe you could tell us a bit of what you are doing in the sandbox.

Imagine being one of these guys. Can you go back to Duke? What was the process like in the meantime? Take a couple classes at a community college? Imagine trying to get a job -- or a date -- with that hanging over your head. Put 2-3 years of your life on hold for no good reason. Because you were stupid enough to go to a party where there was a stripper -- or if you were the guy who was across town at an ATM, just be unfortunate enough to be on the same lacrosse team. What did that guy do to deserve this?

Even think -- 10 years from now. You're one of these guys, and you're going for a job interview. How do you gloss the whole thing on your resume? Your whole life, you're going to be saying "Yeah, I was one of the guys on the Duke lacrosse team falsely accused of rape?" That's got to be a great icebreaker in an interview, huh, especially considering how PC corporations are today. You're an HR guy, are you going to take a risk hiring these guys, or are you going to say "not worth the problem, let's assume the worst and not hire him"?

If I'm one of these kids, I'm hoping my old man has connections and can get me a job, because my whole life, I'm going to need them.

Probably a better ice breaker than "Hi, I'm Terry Moran, a reporter for ABC."

The guy is utterly clueless.
