I Eats Shoots & Leaves

Your Language Arts Grade: 100%

Way to go! You know not to trust the MS Grammar Check and you know "no" from "know." Now, go forth and spread the good word (or at least, the proper use of apostrophes).

Are You Gooder at Grammar?
Make a Quiz

What's the expression bandied about these days to justify the average yo-yo's appalling grammar? "Post-literate culture," I think they call it. The rationale seems to be that with the rise of automatic spell-check, new e-mail and IM shorthands, and other techno-frippery, nobody needs to know how to read or write the Queen's English anymore.

Feh, says I.

Yips! to fellow grammar shark Jordana.

I'm just recuperating from hiring a new administrative assistant. Out of 74 applications, there were 7 finalists who had 1 or fewer errors on their resumes and cover letters. After phone interviews only two worth bringing in.

One of the phone interviewees lost her chance for stardom when asked for an example of her attention to detail: "I proofread all our letters to clients for spelling, grammar and puncutality."

I'm not kidding.
