Your Friday Afternoon "Heh"

Regular readers know that we hates the nasssty wicked tricksy
I'm no great fan of what Peter Jackson did to The Lord of the Rings.

Nonetheless, it could have been worse:

Yips! to Ace.

This regular reader thinks perhaps you were on crack when you developed your opinion of Jackson's product. Let's face it, if you're not going to have 24 hours of screen time for the final product, you're going to have to make compromises.

One (and almost the only) thing I fault is a couple of the casting choices. Elijah Wood? No thanks. He at times makes me wish the cave troll had been a mite handier with the spear. No, strike that - he makes me wish Deep Impact had a more gruesome ending, so to spare us Wood's later film appearances. Sean Bean would have been better as Aragorn, IMO. Andy Serkis? Tone it down a bit, please.

And the time that was spent on the whole Arwen subpolot could have been better spent doing, say, the Tom Bombadil story (despite the fact that it's as detached from the overall plot as it is) (and despite the fact that I think Liv Tyler was smokin' hot.)

OTOH, Bernard Hill was absolutely Oscar-worthy perfect, as was Ian McKellen (though I kinda wish he and Christopher Lee had switched roles.) Miranda Otto? Hubba hubba.

I suppose I could go on and on, and I suppose it would be to no avail whatsoever.
