Gratuitous Outdoor Posting (TM) - Garden Division

It appears that the @#(*$&*% deer have got into my garden in the past week or two. They (or she, as the hoof prints indicate a singleton) cropped the black-eyed susans and the white coneflowers. Also the columbine (which is odd, as it was going to seed anyway). Aaaand one of the hydrangia hanging over the back fence.

Grrrrr, I say. Grrrrrrrr!!!

The deer usually don't jump the garden fence until later on in the fall when they suddenly feel the need to fatten up for winter. Why they're doing so now is a sweet mystery. I'm sure it's Dubya's fault somehow.

Anyway, God damn Bambi and all of his ilk.

Y'know, our dear pal Kathy the Cake-Eater has been after me for some time to try a natural yet rayther unorthodox pest deterent. I am this close to giving it a wizz, so to speak.

No, I won't post pictures. If you want them, you can come and take them yourselves.

Just make sure you eat a steak for supper before your midnight rondezvous. Has to be the, well, you know, of a male carnivore. Won't work if you have, say, vegetarian lasagne.

I'm still of the opinion that it'll work.

And won't you be cheesed if it does!

I feel your pain, though I have the *&%$#@#$! June bugs, not deer, to deal with right now. We are the only people in the whole damn neighborhood who have the dumb little bag-a-bug things out so while we're killing our share, no one else is bothering which means we're not even making a dent. And since I seem to be the only one within 8 houses who is actually growing something other than shrubs in their garden, they like our garden even more.

You could always get a dog - I think it's the puppies who are keeping the deer out of our yard. Same general principle as what Kathy is suggesting but slightly less embarassing for you. :)

You know, bows are nearly silent, and since it's a "tame" suburban doe we're talking about, you'd probably be able to get within ten to fifteen feet, which would make a miss highly unlikely... even for a novice. Modern highly damaging broadheads make a walk-off of more than a few yards nigh impossible (Many arrowed deer don't even know they've been shot).

Then you could have the sweet and tasty revenge of serving her along with some of your garden's fine produce.

I'm just sayin'...
