Let's Go, Nats!

Nats Logo.gif

Caught my first Nats game of the year on tee vee last evening. Okay, it was against the Phillies (in your face, Gordo!), and okay it was kinda iffy until Zimmerman and Church opened it up in the last innings, but this is the Nats' third straight win and we've got ourselves a bit of a rally going here. And with the Mets getting soundly spanked by the Braves, who knows? Maybe the steam is beginning to come out of their initial surge. (In your face, Gary!)

All this "root for the home team" stuff is new to me. Growing up in San Antonio, all we had was one the Dodgers' farm clubs (Fernando Valenzueula came through and pitched all of about two and a third innings before being called up to the Show). You could cheer the Astros if you wanted to, but I don't recall that very many people did.

Of course, getting behind a newly transplanted fifth-rate team isn't the same thing as the grand old traditions of, say Red Sawx Nation, but everybody has to start somewhere, right?

So, go Nats!

Well, it's certainly better than having them play north of the border as the Expos where their best player is Le Grand Orange, Rusty Staub.

I have one Nat on my fantasy team, closer Chad Cordero. I need the Nats to get a lot of close wins.

I've always been a baseball fan myself. Somewhere my mum has a photo of a young me with Ted Williams (then manager of the Senators). When the Senators fled town, I became a National League man myself. Rooting for the Braves. It was hard when MLB moved a team in the same division to my hometown... But I've slowly extricated myself from my following the Braves and become a Nats man.

Frankly, there is very little in this world quite as fun as a day game with the kids...

And, in case the Colossus is reading follow-ups... I have three Nats on my team. Soriano, Hernandez, and Cordero. So I want lots of close wins too. And I'd like Hernandez's ERA to get somewhere down into the 4's at least...

Ah, methinks the Braves will be coming down to RFK this weekend to give the Nats a right good spanking. And the Mets will still be atop the NL East. - - - raspberries - - -

I fart in your general direction!
