Refresh my memory

Am I nuts, or did Lyndon Johnson accidently shoot a friend (who subsequently died) when he was a teenager?

If I'm misremembering this, my apologies in advance to the family of, of, It's all the fault of that damn Lyndon Johnson!

UPDATE: It was Adlai Stevenson--he accidently shot a young girl named Ruth Merwin.

He also picked his dog up by the ears!

I googled around, and I wasn't able to find anything that would confirm this--which probably doesn't mean much one way or the other.

I've got to say, though, that putting "lyndon johnson hunting accident" into Google takes you to some fascinating websites. "The FBI, Our Napoleonic Sanhedrin" looks like it might have the answers to a lot of questions that have been bothering me and my invisible friend Travis Bickle lately.

I couldn't find anything on Johnson either. BTW, I saw a brand new bumper sticker for sale: "I'd rather go hunting with Dick Cheney than riding with Ted Kennedy". I regret that I can't remember on which blog site I saw the thing, but I believe it's actually available through Cafe Express.

You're thinking of Adlai Stevenson

LBJ shot Stevenson? Mom always said he was responsible for getting Kennedy knocked off, but I didn't realize it was a habit!
