I Am A Geek

Yesss! I've now managed to install my Star Trek Voyager Door Chime (TM) on my incoming email notification. I am still sufficiently ignorant of all things computer-related to consider this a major triumph, particularly as I had saved it on a floppy disk from my old system and brought it over here with me.

Roll your eyes all you want - these are the little grace notes that help make life more enjoyable.

My email makes the Homer Simpson "woo-hoo!" noise.

I used to use the Star Trek communicator "chirp" to signal new messages on my work computer. And I used Strauss' Also Sprach Zarathustra theme for startup, and the WGBH station theme for my shutdown. These days, I don't mess with anything other than my desktop wallpaper (currently Saturn's rings from Cassini).

Go ahead and "geek out". You've got the right to. Currently, I'm trying to find that star trek communicator "chirp" for my flip-phone when I open it.

I used to have Charlton Heston's famous, "You blew it up...Gdamn you all to Hell!" set for emptying my recycle bin. So one day I happened to have just clicked to start the emptying process when my boss walked into my office. Needless to say, he was a bit startled to hear what was screeching from my computer speakers.
