FLASH IN THE PAN BABES OF THE EIGHTIES

Karen Allen and Kate Capshaw. at the suggestion of a loyal reader. Karen’s breakthrough flick: Animal House. Best movie: Raiders of the Lost Ark. Best line from best movie: “Indy, you always know how to show a girl a good time.” Last seen in The Perfect Storm. No radar contact since. Missing and presumed lost.

Kate Capshaw: breakthrough movie: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom where she played a ditz who almost became The Sacrificial Blonde. Claim to fame: married Stephen Spielberg. Can anyone remember the last decent movie she was in? Not that she needs the money

UPDATE: faithful reader Cindy has pulled Kate to shore and she is officially off the Flash in the Pan Babes of the Eighties and Nineties. I used to think I watched too much TV now it is apparent I do not watch nearly enough. Karen Allen continues to listed as missing and presumed lost. Has anyone seen Karen? Anyone? Bueller?

I see Karen Allen all the time in things. Kate Capshaw has done about 10 movies in the last year alone; she is everywhere. And she looks different each time, too. Did a Lord of the Rings movie when they got all those awards. It's amazing how she looks in each movie; sometimes it's hard to tell who it is. She was Satan in "The Passion," too. With a little help, I could name every movie she's been in and I know she has one that will be released soon and was in one released last Fall. Trust me, she's everywhere.

Karen Allen was in 'Scrooged' with Bill Murray (a Christmas movie); also had a small role as the protagonist's mother in 'The Sandlot'.

I'm almost certain both are more than 10 years old.

I'm sorry, first broken angel, but the role of Satan in "Passion" was played by Rosalinda Celentano. As for Kate Capshaw, according to IMDB.com, she has only done two TV programs since the turn of the century.

Karen Allen was in 2004's When Will I Be Loved, which (I've been told) includes some naked Neve Campbell (if you're into that sort of thing), and is scheduled to appear in the inevitable sequel The Sandlot 2...

Not to slander her if it's not true, but I heard Karen Allen had a mid 1980s bout with mental illness that made her drop out of the business. Or, perhaps, a bout of mental clarity. I'm not sure which. She has been making a comeback in the last few years. Raiders was definitely the highpoint of her career; she either had remarkable luck or a remarkable agent, because she was in a lot of good films in a short period of time. She was never a beauty queen but she had that undefinable girl next door quality of "pluck" or "moxie" or "verve" or whatever it was. Freckles, too.

Kate Capshaw replaced Amy Irving as Mrs. Spielberg, if I remember correctly. She was a pretty remarkable physical specimen in the mid 80s; Spielberg could hardly be blamed. I never found Amy Irving to be my cup of tea; I remember her in that movie where she and Richard Dreyfuss played insufferably egotistical piano players; that movie ruined her for me. My wife, who can actually play the piano, loved it, though.

What was that movie with Karen Allen where Jeff Bridges was an alien and she took him across country? Starman I think. Love the big doe eyes...
