Where the Hoof Meets the Highway
It looks like I'm going to be headed out to Lincoln, Nebraska next week on bidness. (How do I choose these exotic locales?) As always, any pointers on good cheap places to eat/things worth seeing are greatly appreciated.
Posted by Robert at February 7, 2005 02:37 PMI was just in Omaha, so if you head that way (about 2 hours), I can make a recommendation or two.
That region of the country has the best beef in the U.S., so any steakhouse should be a good bet.

Omaha's actually only an hour drive from Lincoln. Providing you don't get stuck in traffic after a football game, then it'll take you forever. I haven't eaten anywhere in Lincoln since I was a kid. I'll check with the family and see what they say about that. They're bound to know something.
As far as things to do and see: of course, being the huge Nebraska football fan you are, you will want to pop by Memorial Stadium and see that place. Can't really miss the place. Otherwise, it's pretty much a college town. Cheap beer is plentiful. I've never really thought the campus was anything to write home about, mainly because its so spread out, but you might think otherwise. If you get the time and are on I-80 to Omaha, you can always check out the SAC (Strategic Air Command) Museum. After years of all those nifty planes sitting out on a tarmac at Offutt AFB, they finally built a place to house them and it's pretty freakin' cool. They have an actual SR-71 mounted on a pole in the lobby atrium, so it looks like its flying. Plus you can get up close and personal to a North Korean MiG, etc.

"Our Gals May Be Big, But Our Rates Are Petite!"
Or so I've heard.
Posted by: Bill from INDC at February 7, 2005 05:54 PMMy husband was stationed at Offutt for nearly four years. According to him, the best thing to see in Nebraska is the sign that says, Now Leaving Nebraska.
Posted by: Denise at February 8, 2005 04:54 AMI'd believe that if I hadn't driven from Nebraska to Kansas on Highway 81. Kansas makes Nebraska look like Disneyland.
