Attention Tolkien Geeks!*

Here is the most comprehensive Tolkien-knowledge quiz I've come across. It consists of 111 questions divided over six levels, with each level more difficult that the previous one and a complicated Black Rider-based limit on the number of questions you can get wrong and survive.

In a big hurry and not stopping to think, I got through the first four levels pretty comfortably but came undone in the fifth. I'll have to come back to this when I have the time for it.

*If you've just seen the movies, don't bother trying. (UPDATE: This comes off sounding snarkier than I meant it to. What I meant was that the quiz really is based on the books and there is simply no way you can know this info from the movies. No malice intended. Not this time.)

Alas, it appears I do not deserve the title of "Tolkien geek." I failed defending Helm's Deep, which is only level three. I kept getting tripped up on questions from the Hobbit, which I've read, but didn't enjoy nearly as much as LOTR, so it appears I've forgotten a bit. And then I got to level 3, where I think they started throwing in stuff from other Tolkien books (at least I hope so - I didn't recognize some of it at all!) - and my defense of Helm's Deep was quite pathetic indeed.

I cheated a bit to finish the whole thing probably really got an 85 and not a 93. This has reassured me that I am not as big a Tolkein geek as I was afraid considering I have ranked the noldor princes in order of coolness ie. Finrod Felagund (coolest cause he takes the hit for beren), Fingolfin (badass mofo) , Maedhros etc.

My biggest stumbling block in the early rounds was the biographical stuff on Tolkien himself.

CTOB, I hate to break it to you, but you ARE a geek. At least, more of one than I am.

Um, yeah. ctob's comments alone reveal his level of Tolkien geekdom. I still need to take the quiz, but I'm thinking I'm not going to get very far.

I'm happy to report I'm a level four Tolkein geek. Very reassuring. Then I got to level five and just got killed...

Right there with ya, Willow. It's good enough for me!

I didn't say I wasn't a geek, but anyone who got 111 on that quiz is a super geek, considering I got 85 and got some of the biographical questions right. So I'm not as bad. See its all realtive, man. Notice the number of questions is 111 ( bilbo's special birthday age I think ) now that's super geeky.
