Random Commuter Thoughts
I've never much liked the practice common amongst DeeCee women of wearing business clothes and sneakers. Utilitarian considerations of comfort aside, it's just not very.....stylish. Nonetheless, I'm willing to let it go.
However, men who indulge in this practice wake the sleeping fiend in my heart. When I become Emperor, one of my first acts will be to require such men also to sport a paper bag with eyeholes, a handbell and a large sign labelled "I am a Dork."

Posted by: jen at September 16, 2004 10:23 AMOh, that's why I wouldn't make the ladies wear the paper bags. As I say, I can understand their reasoning, what with the heel thing. Men don't have that excuse.
Posted by: Robert the Llama Butcher at September 16, 2004 10:28 AMI'm on board with changing shoes for a comfortable commute, which was why I always wore comfortable, low-heeled shoes for the commute and then changed into heels at the office. The look still leaves something to be desired (note to men: we don't want you desiring us on our way to work anyway), but its better than sneakers.
Posted by: Sparky at September 16, 2004 04:31 PMMy compromise has always been to wear flats, except for job interviews and important meetings.
This is not necessarily the idea compromise, since I'm 5'1" and heels are helpful. But I really have no desire to shorten my tendons and mess up my feet, either.
