Not that I totally disagree with her, but it sounds like she is continuing her descent into Norma Desmond territory. She definitely started it last year when she teed off on Nicole Kidman.
Posted by: Chrees at August 2, 2005 11:23 AMI applaud her. To be a legend means having a lifetime of worthy films. Nicole is just too young. She's three years younger than me, so at most she is still just a young starlet.
Consarnit!
Rbj, again it wasn't that I totally disagreed with her, but she shows no recognition of what is involved in the movie industry today. The funniest comment of hers (to me) was talking about making 4 or 5 pictures a year and how no one does that anymore.
Ummmm... Lauren dear. I too hate what movies have become, but between pre-production of 2 months, shooting of 4-6 months, mandatory gala openings worldwide of 2-3 months... well, the time goes by rather fast. Although there are lots of actresses doing more movies than that a year today, but most of them are based in the San Fernando Valley and titles similar to Butt Pirates 18.
Nicole is far from a legend and not even one of my favorite actresses, but I don't recall seeing Bacall headlining a movie that cost over $100 million to film and market with all of that hanging on her head. Like I said, it was a Norma Desmond moment in total denial of what the industry is like today. Maybe I'm getting as crotchety as she is...

Wouldn't that be "Butt Pirates XVIII"?
Posted by: Steve the LLamabutcher at August 2, 2005 02:23 PMGiven the state of movies these days, I'll take a 1940s film noir over a $100 million explosion fest. I'd rather have movies with characters and a plot than computer generated special effects.
Posted by: rbj at August 2, 2005 02:37 PMSteve, I'll take your word on it ;)
I'm with you RBJ. And I support actors and actresses that choose small or quirky movies/roles outside of the Hollywood mainstream. But the system has changed dramatically over the years, both independent and mainstream.
