What the Dickens Is Going On Here?

Ann Althouse relays a NYTimes blurb about plans to construct a Charles Dickens Theme Park in Chatham, Kent, where Dickens lived as a boy.

The imagination boggles.

Will the snack bars serve Oliver's gruel and Miss Haversham's wedding cake?

I can't help but think that this sounded like a great idea to someone who had never actually read anything by Dickens; i.e., just about anyone living in the modern UK (or the US, for that matter). This morning, Lileks wrote: "There may very well always be an England, but if it's a chav living on packets of crisps and shouting OI! what's the point?"
