What the Dickens Is Going On Here?
Ann Althouse relays a NYTimes blurb about plans to construct a Charles Dickens Theme Park in Chatham, Kent, where Dickens lived as a boy.
The imagination boggles.
Will the snack bars serve Oliver's gruel and Miss Haversham's wedding cake?

Posted by: RobertJ at April 8, 2005 10:20 AMI can't help but think that this sounded like a great idea to someone who had never actually read anything by Dickens; i.e., just about anyone living in the modern UK (or the US, for that matter). This morning, Lileks wrote: "There may very well always be an England, but if it's a chav living on packets of crisps and shouting OI! what's the point?"
