Grumpy Valentine's Day Posting

Even NRO is falling into the trap. Today, Kathryn Lopez interviews Dr. Neil Clark Warren, founder of eHarmony, the online dating service.

This guy gives me the creeps. Whenever I see his shmoozy ads on the tee-vee, I can't help thinking that anyone who follows him is just asking to one day wake up to discover themselves in an armed compound outside of Waco, about to enjoy a friendly communal cup of kool-aid.

It's just a feeling.

Definite Heaven's Gate vibe going on there.

There are certain functions in my life that I'd prefer not to turn over to either other human beings, or automotons. Paying my bills, building a computer, etc. are among those things. To think there are folks who would turn over the whole "finding a spouse" process -- the most personal thing in the world -- to a creepy stranger seems a little weird to me, too.

I was going to do a series of humorous posts on the mind control/cult groups, but when I researched it I found the topic too disturbing. I may yet do a series of serious posts on it.

The good thing about being paranoid -- which I certainly am -- is that you never, ever, let anyone else think for you. When I check out of this life, you can rest assured that it won't be after ingesting a mixture of pudding and pills, face down, covered in a purple shroud, with $5 in my front pocket to pay my fare on the alien craft that's hiding behind the comet -- which is how the Heaven's Gate crowd went out. No, sirree.
