THE WRECK OF EDMUND FITZGERALD

Kathy the Cake-eater reminds us that yesterday was the thirtieth anniversary of the loss of a certain ship she refuses to name which could be none other than the Great Lakes ore carrier Edmund Fitzgerald, lost "when the gales of November came early." Play a little Gordon Lightfoot or perhaps this tear-jerker, well-familiar to all who live near the sea.

I've always loved that song.

The Feared Redhead and I spent our honeymoon in the quaint little town of Bayfield, Wisconsin. On our way there from the Twin Cities, we stopped and spent the night in Duluth, my FiL's home town, and stopped and visited their Maritime Museum. They had a model oof the Edmund Fitzgerald, and a whole display dedicated to all the ships lost on Gitchee Gumee. Very moving.

Had I a bell, I'd ring it 29 times.

"Does anyone know where the Love of God goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours.
The searchers all say, she would have made WhiteFish bay, if she had put, fifthteen more miles behind her."
