Overpriced and overrated

Fox New is reporting that the average cost for a wedding is up to $26,327.

What ever happened to the good old days of a low cost wedding and the father of the bride was presented with gifts proving the son-in-law could take care of his bride? The father of the bride used to come out of the deal smelling like a rose. He reduced the expenses while getting lots of cool stuff in return.

Smart money says this tradition ended because to many grooms were asking for refunds.

I'm in the midst of wedding planning and I can attest that it doesn't take much for the budget to get huge. What makes it tough is that where I'm trying to keep things reasonable and affordable, my parents (who are footing the bill, so it's their perogative) keep telling me not to worry about the budget.

That said, my mother is the champion bargain hunter and is able to buy things that we'll use for the wedding through her business and that she will then reuse for that business. But still...it's ridiculous how expensive some things are.
