Dogs and Cats, Living Together!

This week, the Demystifying Divas and the Men's Club take on the whole thorny issue of how pet preferences affect dating relationships. Jump on over to Sadie's to link away.

Personally, I've always looked on cats as the French of the pet world - snide, opportunistic and willing to slash your hamstrings the instant they think they can get away with it. Dogs, on the other hand, truly are Man's Best Friend, honest, loyal and dependable. Alas, the Missus tends to think exactly the opposite. Fortunately, while we were dating this was a moot point, since we were both in school at the time.

Since we got married, however, I've patiently endured 12 years of cat-infestation. But with the kids getting big enough to pitch in, the Day of the Dog is coming soon. Oh, yes.

Cats seem more like Soviets than French -- they view us as "Useful idiots" tolerable only because we have opposable thumbs that make us efficient slaves.

Dogs, on the other hand, view us as packmates who just happen to be of a different species.

Recently a study was done that indicated that dogs are more adept than even more intelligent species, including chimps, at reading human body language.

I am a dog person - I grew up with dogs and have a dog right now. They rule.

However...

I just adopted my roommate's cat because he seduced me with his sweet affection and excellent mouser skillz.

I equate cats with Canada: somehow always around, cleaning themselves trying to look neat and seem relevant.

Dogs on the other hand, are like the American military: fierce, loyal, fiercely loyal. In exchange for absolute service and faithfulness all they really want is to be appreciated for what they are.

Here is proof of canine perfection.
