FLASH IN THE PAN BABES OF THE EIGHTIES

Tonight's venture into popular culture: Meg Tilley. Breakthrough movie: The Big Chill in 1983 where she played Chloe, the suicide victim's very young shackup. Best attributes: dark hair, dark eyes, incredible flexibility as shown by her ability to put her knee behind her head. Last critically acclaimed movie: The Big Chill. Dropped off the radar scopes and has not seen in fifteen years. If she stayed as limber as she did in the movie, she would not have lacked for dates.

I can never tell her and her sister Jennifer apart. If you add them together, they kind of had a marginal movie career.

Hey . . . what about Jeanne Tripplehorn?

She was decent in "Valmont," but her career never seemed the same afterwards. She was supposed to be in "Amadeus" but had an accident the day before shooting began. Her body betrayed her from having a dancing career, then denied her a huge break in an award-winning film. Yet she never seemed bitter about it.

Well, she had a few other decent movies. Agnes of God and Impulse were mediocre but watchable, and Valmont was actually pretty good. But she seems to have dropped off the screen competely about a decade ago.

Possibly she just got fed up with the whole Hollywood lifestyle. Meg always struck me as a more level-headed person than Jennifer, who is nice but authentically crazy. Several years ago at the Sundance Film Festival I met a guy who had been hired as Jennifer Tilly’s designated boy toy for the duration of the festival. He was supposed to go everywhere with Jennifer to make sure she didn’t do anything too dangerous or embarrassing while she was in Utah. Also, he was supposed to be charming, fun, and ready to meet Ms. Tilly’s sexual needs. I thought it was particularly annoying that he was actually getting paid for this.
