Gratuitous Llama Movie Blegging
The Missus and I are celebrating our twelfth anniversary this weekend in a low-key style by a simple dinner and movie date. (With any luck, I will avoid coming down with heat-stroke the way I did last year.) Anyhoo, we thought that Mr. & Mrs. Smith looked like it might be entertaining.
Anybody who's seen it have any thoughts?
Posted by Robert at June 16, 2005 02:14 PMHaven't seen it, but it has actually gotten some decent reviews.

Metacritic: average 55, not great, but a few critics did like it.

Posted by: The Colossus at June 16, 2005 03:02 PMWhy not Revenge of the Sith? You know there's some really moving romantic dialoge between Anakin and Padme. [Insert appropriate ironic emoticon here].
Mr. & Mrs. Smith looks fairly entertaining, and is one my wife and I would see, had we the time. Just try not to leer too obviously at Angie.
Hold me like you did back on Naboo!

My brother saw it and liked it (there's a hand-to-hand fight between the leads that sounds like it could be difficult for women and civilized men to watch); my mom liked the trailer. FWIW.
Posted by: derringdo at June 16, 2005 06:00 PMI saw Mr and Ms Smith over the weekend, and wrote about it briefly. Some more thoughts since then:
The more I think about it, the more I like it. The whole thing is in some ways similar to anyone's marriage getting screwed up: they arn't on the same page anymore, they start hurting each other verbally, then with action, until they get to the point of either "we need a divorce" or "I love you, how did we get here."
Of course, at the same time we have explosions, gun battles, and hot sex. A little mystery, a twist near the end...
See Revenge of the Sith because you have to see it, and because it gains something from the big screen. See Mr and Ms Smith because you want to see it.
So, yeah, I would recommend it for a lowkey anniversary outing.
Ms Smith is clearly the better assasin, by the way.
Posted by: owlish at June 17, 2005 12:56 AMI dunno, I haven't seen it yet, but as hot a bod as she has, I can't get into the whole "attraction to Angelina Jolie" thing. It's like when you were a kid, and your mom had to tell you, "Don't put that thing in your mouth, you don't know where it's been!"
Except in this case, the Papparazzi have made damn sure we DO know where it's been, and for once, not knowing wasn't that much worse.
Posted by: Brian B at June 17, 2005 01:57 PMAh, but one of the advantages of for the most part ignoring celebrity media stuff is that I don't even really know what you're talking about. And don't start giving me details. I'M NOT LISTENING! I'M NOT LISTENING! OOOOH, SAY CAN YOU SEEEE......"
