FLASH IN THE PAN BABES OF THE EIGHTIES-TOP GUN EDITION

What ever happened to Kelly McGillis? She had two good moves in the mid-eighties (Top Gun and Witness) and has since appeared in a string of B-movies and straight-to-cable/DVD productions. She played a lesbian in Monkey's Mask but has not otherwise indulged in any of the other activities which mark a starlet trying to boost a sinking career. Personally, I would take her any day over her Top Gun co-star, Meg Ryan. Kelly was last seen in a decent movie giving Harrison (pre-Calista) Ford longing looks as he drove away in Witness. Rumored to have solen her boyfriend's plane and was forced to eject from her F-14 in a flat spin over the Pacific. Missing and presumed lost at sea, but we live in the sure and certain hope that one day the sea shall give up her dead. . . .

I believe she owns a restaurant/bar in on one of the Florida Keys with her husband. The bar is filled with aviation memorabilia, apparently - has a great collection of old airplane stuff.

Why I know this I have no idea.

I had to Google it ... It's in Key West, and it's called Kelly's Caribbean Bar and Grill. It's filled with memorabilia from Pan Am, and is known as a primo spot for hot chicken wings.

I had this vision of her standing next to the Mini-van, watching the kid's soccer game, holding a latte, chatting with Phoebe Cates...

I wonder if they have memorablia there from one of the great tee-vee shows of the 1980s, "Tales of the Gold Monkey," a shameless Raiders knockoff that had a really cool 1930s sea plane.

I was addicted to Tales of the Gold Monkey. hahaha We absolutely loved that show and were bummed when it got canceled. What was that actor's name? He's still around. Stephen Collins!

Yeah, I remember seeing some People magazine "Where are they now?" article, and Kelly McGillis seemed particularly content.

You know it, it's when movies hit reality: when Phoebe Cates' kids get to be teens, and every teenage boy who has seen Fast Times, and played the Cars' "Movin' in Stereo" too many times, and are all like, "dude, that's your mom? can she chaperone the dance?"

Now that I think of it, I've described the plot line for half of Rob Lowe's movies....(except of course Atomic Train, which I don't believe had a very high nubility factor in it)

It's a really good restaurant, actually. Great food, great atmosphere.
