More Gratuitous 80's Pop Culchah Stuff

The Missus was out having a birthday drink with a friend last evening, so I sat down to watch Silverado, which I had never seen before.

My friends, let me just tell you here and now that this movie is conclusive proof that a heavy-weight cast does not, repeat not, guarantee a good movie. I actually found myself feeling sorry for Kevin Kline, who is normally one of my favorite actors.

Discuss amongst yourselves.

Kline himself is certainly no guarantee. His record is spotty at best. Yeah, he was great in a Fish Called Wanda. What've you done for us since, Kevin? Huh? Soapdish? French Kiss? And those are some of the better ones on your resume.

Hmmm. I love Silverado, although I have to admit that it's been years since I watched it last. Maybe it doesn't hold up well over time.

Silverado is another one of those movies (like The Quick And The Dead) I like despite (or maybe because of) the fact that it requires no small amount of 'suspension of disbelief' -- if you approach it as being about 'real people' in 'real situations', it becomes difficult to watch (and Kevin Costner would become even *more* insufferable that his role otherwise would be...) -- personally, I think of Silverado as being in about the same genre-ballpark as Buckaroo Bonzai (one of my all-time faves, by the by...)

Funny you should mention Buckaroo Banzai (one of my favorites, too, btw) because even though Jeff Goldblum's character in Silverado is called "Slick", I kept thinking of him as "New Jersey".
