THE QUICK AND THE DEAD

Watched The Quick and the Dead last night with the Chief of Staff after our offspring went to bed. Good brainless action movie. Gene Hackman showed the talent that keeps him coming to work, cranking out movies, and never complaining. Sharon Stone was good without having to bang everyone in sight or show much skin--she looked particularly fetching in the last scene strolling down the street in leather, spurs clanking amidst the fire and explosions.

Good God, I thought that was one of the worst Western movies in a while. Hackman was about the only thing that saved it from being completely miserable.

I'm with you on this one, LMC. It was/is my next planned entry on my series "Films I liked That No One Else Did."

Good cast for a B movie: Hackman, Stone, Crowe, DiCaprio. Although it was silly, I did like the gunfighting. And no one plays evil like Hackman. Stone looks pretty good in the old-style western dress in the dinner scene, too.

I liked it, though it does require a rather healthy portion of 'suspension of disbelief' (but then, I enjoyed Shatner in Incubus, too...)

Well I've got a week of baching it coming up as the Missus and the Llama-ettes head for the beach. Might be a fine time to check it out. And what is wrong with Sharon Stone trying to bang everyone in sight, may I ask?

Nothing wrong with it-just saying that it does not have to be in every scene of every movie she does. Then again, my taste in movies has been accused of being a little "out there." Keep in mind that I suggested cutting out all of "Catwoman" but the fight scene between Stone and Halle Barry and looping it to run an hour and forty-five minutes which you annointed "The Dude's Cut."

Yup. I pre-ordered that one from Amazon. Still waiting.

Did you spot the car in the movie? "The Quick & The Dead" was directed by Sam Raimi ("Spiderman 1&2", "The Evil Dead 1&2", "Army of Darkness", "Darkman"), and he's got a running joke where he uses his old Oldsmobile from college in every movie he makes. It was Uncle Ben's car in "Spiderman", and Bruce Campbell drove it in the "Evil Dead" series (it even goes back in time to medieval England in "Army of Darkness"). From what I've been told, the car shows up deep in the background for a frame or two (I think a barn door swinging in the wind uncovers the car), but I've never sat down & watched the movie frame by frame to spot the car.
