Not Exactly Gratuitous Unseen Movie Bashing
The posters for the new Bewitched movie are going up all over town, which prompts me to post a pic of Elizabeth Montgomery, the original "Sam", who was always one of my favorites.
I'm not going to set up an Elizabeth Montgomery/Nicole Kidman cat fight here, nor am I going to damn the new movie out of hand - even though I loathe Shirley MacLaine and really don't like Will Ferrell very much either. I will simply point out that Hollywood has a pretty dismal track record when it comes to mining classic tee vee series for new movie material.
We shall see what we shall see. [Insert nose-wrinkling here.]
Posted by Robert at May 24, 2005 01:08 PMNow why don't they do that, a catfight movie between Nicole Kidman and Elizabeth Montgomery (er, maybe EM can designate someone to fill in for her.)
In some ways, I'm actually looking forward to the Dukes of Hazzard movie. Just as long as they don't try and put any social commentary in it. It only needs what's-her-name in skimpy outfits and car chases.
Did you say that a Dukes of Hazzard movie is underway? Isn't that specifically mentioned in Revelations as one of the signs?
Posted by: The Colossus at May 24, 2005 01:40 PMNot only is it underway, it will be coming out this summer. They're already advertising it. Oh, and what's-her-name is Jessica Simpson. She actually showed some comedic talent on SNL. As for Revelations, only start to worry if Michael Bay gets an Oscar.
Posted by: rbj at May 24, 2005 01:57 PMYes, I've been wondering whether to go on record saying that Jessica Simpson is no Catherine Bach. Actually, to me what made the original series go were Sorrell Booke's Boss Hogg and James Best's Roscoe P. Coltraine. Burt Reynolds plays Boss Hogg in the new one and Sheriff Roscoe is played by that guy who was Swamp Thing the pilot in Con Air.

I have researched the film, and it is mentioned in Nostradamus. Up at my place.

Posted by: The Colossus at May 24, 2005 07:22 PMNicole Kidman? Feh. Overrated in every way. Elizabeth Montgomery wins by a long shot.
The burning question in my mind is whether they will have Nicole wrinkle her nose for real, or do some stupid CGI effect.
From what I understand, Kidman was able to pull the requisite facial muscle moves off. I vaguely remember some article in perhaps Entertainment Weekly a while back that made a point to say that she could do that.
The IMDB says that Montgomery's technique involved twitching the upper lip, upon which the nose followed. I gave it a shot myself and the upper lip theory seems to work. However, I looked more like David Tomlinson's Emelius Browne in Bedknobs and Broomsticks as he was on the way to becoming a rabbit, courtesy of Angela Lansbury.
