GENE HACKMAN
What the top Hackman flicks? Mine are, in this order: Mississippi Burning, Enemy of the State, Behind Enemy Lines, Bat 21, and Uncommon Valor. Gene is like Cal Ripkin was before he retired from baseball, not too flashy, comes to work, cranks out solid peformances, and never complains.

Hoosiers.
There's a great episode of MST3K where they do Stranded in Space (aka Marooned) co-starring Hackman. Throughout the movie the bots keep saying "Hackman, he's good in anything." It's become something of a catchphrase for me. I think it whenever I see the guy.

But I also love him in Bonnie and Clyde, and also the Woody Allen flick Another Woman. The Allen movie lets Hackman show a whole other side ... it's awesome.
But nothing can touch (in my opinion) The Conversation.

Posted by: steve at May 22, 2005 04:28 PM"The French Connection", definitely. Who can ever forget that famous line, "Look, I'd rather be a lamp post in New York than the President of France"?
Posted by: D. Carter at May 22, 2005 05:14 PMDon't forget "The Package"...
Posted by: KMR at May 22, 2005 07:24 PMI can't believe it took that long for "The French Connection" to show up.
Posted by: Joe R. the Unabrewer at May 22, 2005 08:32 PMHE was also hilarious in The Royal Tenenbaums. Best part of the movie.
Posted by: Rachel at May 22, 2005 10:18 PMI thought Bat-21 was pretty weak. Danny Glover's lousy, and the movie's just dripping with anti-war propaganda.
I thought one of his best was Unforgiven with Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman.

The Quick and the Dead.
Ok, I'm kidding. But even in a silly movie like that, Hackman is the best part of it. I liked him in Crimson Tide, too. Again, not a great movie -- but without Hackman, it would have been dreadful.
How 'bout an Honorable Mention for his cameo in Young Frankenstein?
Posted by: Robert the LB at May 23, 2005 09:08 AMI remember him is THE POSIDON ADVENTURE and i think he was in FORBIDEN PLANET and a few others
Posted by: night heron at May 23, 2005 02:40 PMBonnie and Clyde. No Way Out. Heck, I like Gene in just about anything. I wish he had gotten to play Hannibal Lecter.
