That one's gonna leave a mark

Tribe disowns Ward Churchill.

I didn't write much about the whole Ward Churchill kerfuffle when it was big in March as it was a serious crunch time at work pulling together the article on Jefferson's influence on the Indian removal policy. But my sense of the story was this: his scholarship was fraudulent not because of Michael Bellesiles-style fakery of sources per se (although it seems now to be the case for parts of his work), but rather that his scholarship was imbued and defined by his claiming the mantle of an oppressed Native American. And he wasn't. It would be as if Catherine MacKinnon was actually a man (although, that would explain a lot, to be perfectly honest).

This story should end the debate once and for all: he's not an Indian, he's not a scholar, he's a performance artist.

And not a very good one at that.

Alas it is sadly diet Cherry Coke now (diet MD is an abomination).

I would still argue that there is little evidence that this is about building democracy and plenty of evidence it is about securing oil assets for the next 50 years. Otherwise our current position towards Venezuela makes no sense.
Crowing about democracy is just putting lipstick on the pig.

Gotta go mutate fish now. How's that for a productive member of society?

I look forward to hearing how he ad-hominem attacks his way out of this one.

He's probably boiling over because he can't scream racism without finally admiting he's no Injun.

Look for the new epithet "Little Custers" to become very popular.

Did you read that long piece in the Weekly Standard about him? The piece is laugh out loud funny ... If you haven't read it, let me know - I think I linked to it on my blog somewhere, and it's a classic.

Yes, please post the link. I scanned your site for it, but couldn't get past the 40,000 Star Wars posts.

Like all good red-necks, there was an "Indian Princess" somewhere back in the mists of time - or so he thinks. Bad luck for Ward - DNA tests can now prove beyond a shadow if ya is or if ya ain't.

This is a burr under my blanket concerning academia: Any jackass with the right bag of theory-related catch-phrases and the "correct" political outlook is allowed to build an academic career on a mountain of pure horseshit. In this case, the Indian Princess Colonial-Myth. I find it particularly hilarious when the Academy gets it's ass shown like this.
