From one pack animal to another

X-Donkey Blog wonders what the hey with a poll showing Virginia Senator George Allen as the insider for the ohh-eight nomination.

My sense: given who they were polling, this was payback for Allen for doing a great job running the RSCC last fall. Big George (affectionately known as "Chuckie" in central Virginia) got himself a heapin' pile of chips at the big table for that: however, he's not going to win, so don't worry about it.

SEKRIT MESSAGE TO X-DONKEY: Keep up the Diane Lane pic posting, my friend. I fell hard for her when I was 13 in A Little Romance, the first movie I ever saw on HBO. Mon dieu.... Anyhoo, since that appears to be a regular feature, you made it to our blogroll.

You and I were probably watching that movie at about the same time. I think I saw it on HBO (also at age 13) about twenty times. When I was 13, I used to think Diane Lane was the same age but I neglected to factor in the amount of time from filming to release to cable syndication. I've told my wife in no uncertian terms that I love her but if I had the chance...

I think I got to the Diane Lane party a little bit later than yawl: I only vaguely remember ever having seen A Little Romance, but *very* strongly remember seeing The Fabulous Stains, Streets of Fire and then (ooh baby!) Lady Beware, which cemented the notion in my cerebrum that any film with Diane Lane in it can't be *all* bad (btw, somehow I've managed to not see either The Outsiders *or* Rumblefish to date -- but then, I've never seen a Harry Potter or LOTR movie, either, so...)

She definitely embodies the continuation of natural beauty by women in their forties and beyond; cf. Gong Li, Juliette Binoche, et.al.

Age cannot wither her, nor custom stale her infinite variety. Other women cloy the appetites they feed, but she makes hungry where most she satisfies.

My wife and I have had this discussion as well. She does not seem to feel that I have a shot though.
