FLASH IN THE PAN BABES OF THE EIGHTIES

Nastassja Kinski, the prototype Bad Girl.. Best attributes: bus-stoppin' body, big lips. For men of my era, the pic wearing only the snake said it all. Emotional freight: lots-this woman had a "relationship" with that child molester Roman Polanski while she was still a minor. Most bizarre flick: Cat People. Dropped off the radar scopes in the mid-eighties, surfaced for Terminal Velocity in 1994. Probably in a federal witness protection program.

Anybody who had Klaus for a Dad will certainly claim some emotional freight. But still, Nastassja was the absolute definition of Central European beauty around the mid 80s. And, the woman had no parts that didn't come straight from the Lord Himself. She's still, now in her 40s, got a very, very hot older-woman vibe going on. She still shows up in a B-movie now and again, complete with cute attenuated German accent.

She appeared a couple years back in one of Neil LaBute's films - Your friends and neighbors - one of the most disturbing films I've ever seen, but also a really good movie. She's terrific in it, and I was really glad to see her again.

I had the Avedon picture of Natassja with the snake... Ohhhhh...

She,s made 33 films since Terminal Velocity, most of them so-so, but for An American Rhapsody, and especially The Claim. Still an amazingly attractive woman. And 47 is old?

Sorry, one last thing: she may be off "American" radar, but she's made a ton of films and movies all across Europe and Eastern Europe in the last 10 years. Another one of those actresses who never seems to have been out of a job.

Oops ... meant to put quotation marks around "radar" not American. hahaha Takes on kind of a different weird meaning the way it is now!

One of those women who helped define my emerging notions of what constitutes "sexy" back in the 80s. "Cat People" was an extraordinarily silly movie, but Lord God Almighty, she looked good.

Re-saw the film recently and it has not aged well. Ms. Kinski, on the other hand, has aged very nicely indeed.

If you think Cat People was Nastassja Kinski's strangest movie, you haven't seen Aguirre, Das Zorn Gotes

I have not but I may rent it just to find out.

Sheila: I will always have a place in my heart for Nastassja Kinski, in my part because of P.J. O'Rourke's saying she was one of the things he was "for" in describing his politics.

I'll have to go back and re-visit "Tess." I remember liking the strawberry scene quite a bit at the time. Must have been the hormones...
